IRF Symposium 2008 - Programme

The main themes of the IRFS 2008 were multilingual retrieval, annotation and ontology, retrieval in non-textual documents and the improvement of user interfaces. The latest scientific projects from the fields of semantic and linguistic retrieval, text mining, automated quality control and machine translation were presented for the first time.

As an additional service to the IP and IR communities, the IRFS 2008 was preceded by two tutorials with the aim of giving each set of experts an overview and understanding of the other discipline.

Another novelty of the IRFS 2008 was the exhibition, which enabled demonstrations of some new IR technologies for patent searching and triggered lively discussions between exhibitors and delegates.
